Everyone is wondering how a post-corona workplace be. Working habits changed after the coronavirus pandemic. Before the coronavirus pandemic, %20 of the workforce were working remotely. At the end of 2020, %70 of the workforce was working remotely. So, it is certain that we are going to work in a hybrid system. This doesn’t mean the number of remote workers will increase. Lots of employees would prefer a hybrid workplace rather than working completely remotely. Even so, it is likely employees will have a chance to choose their work arrangement. Twitter announced that its workers could keep on working from home as long as they want. Specifically, it used the word “forever”!
Monitoring Employees
Working from home brings its questions. One of those questions is about security concerns. Many companies give laptops to their employees. Yet still, employers are concerned about legal liability. An employer is obligated to protect intracompany chats and customers’ information. Many employers find it helpful to monitor their employees because of the facts we sorted. Employers could feel they should know if their employees doing their tasks in time. That is another reason for monitoring them. At first, glance, monitoring an employee may seem intrusive. Normally if an employee is working at the office and get late for their presentation, the employer would think their other task slows them down. But in a remote workplace if an employee retards their presentation the employer would think they are using their work hours for personal needs. To prevent this absence of trust employers could use monitoring. After the trust is developed those cautions would tail off. This is a matter of time.
Gender Equality
Working from home can improve gender equality. Normally women tend to prefer their family over their jobs when compared to men. Working hours are getting unavoidably flexible while working remotely. That flexibility could give women space to balance their family and work life.
Flexible Work Hours
Employees were demanding a new style of work before the pandemic. They wanted their jobs to be more than just a job. They were in search of a complete experience of life. One of their needs was about flexible work hours. That need is solved with the pandemic. Employers saw their employees can work efficiently from home within flexible hours.
Flexible Location
Another aspect is location. The need for an office is eliminated today. Employees can work from anywhere in the World in the remote workplace. They need only internet and a place to put their laptops to work. That place could be their laps if they want! That means they can be in Uruguay and working for their company which is physically located in Spain.
The world is rapidly changing. Coronavirus could be seen as an opportunity to testing adapting abilities of a company. Companies are tested on embracing the new normal during these days. Companies that have endurance and creativity and flexibility could come out of the crisis stronger.
